Advanced Go: Using Channels for Massive Webhook Ingestion

By 5MinutesAPI Engineering

The Webhook Tsunami

When a client broadcasts 500,000 messages, Meta responds with 1.5 million webhooks over a span of minutes. A standard HTTP server will drop connections or run out of RAM.

The Buffered Channel Architecture

In our Go core, HTTP handlers do almost zero work. They immediately push the JSON payload into a buffered Go channel (chan WebhookPayload) and return 200 OK to Meta. This takes microseconds.

A separate pool of worker goroutines reads from this channel, validates the data, calculates auto-refunds if a delivery failed, and forwards the event to the client's endpoint. This strict separation of ingestion and processing allows 5MinutesAPI to absorb massive traffic spikes without dropping a single status update.
